Role Overview
The Regional Public Information Officer (P) is responsible for developing a planned, strategic approach to achieving IOM visibility across the region and globally. This involves optimizing outreach via media, social media, and other digital tools, while coordinating activities that highlight the value of migration and the contributions of migrants.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Visibility: Develop a strategic approach to achieving IOM visibility across the region and globally via communication activities and campaigns.
Migration Advocacy: Coordinate regional activities and communication plans that highlight the value of migration and the contributions of migrants to countries of origin, transit, and destination to help change negative perceptions.
Country Office Support: Support IOM Country Offices in the region in developing national communication strategies to position IOM with key local audiences, government, civil society, and partners.
Content Dissemination: Gather, prepare, edit, and disseminate public information materials on IOM activities throughout the region in writing and verbally in English.
Media Production: Write, edit, and produce public information material for IOM’s bi-weekly press briefing notes, website, and social media.
Advisory: Advise IOM Chiefs of Mission, Media Focal Points, and other staff in the region on media, public information, social media, and event management issues.
Networking: Develop and strengthen links with international and national media outlets in the region to promote a deeper understanding of IOM’s programs and policies.
Storytelling: Produce human-interest stories from the field, photographs, and video clips for an international audience.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media Communications, Public Information, or a related field with seven (7) years of relevant professional experience; OR
University degree in the above fields with nine (9) years of relevant professional experience.
Experience:
Extensive experience in international journalism, including coverage of international organizations, preferably in the Horn of Africa.
Previous experience in video production and editing.
Skills and Competencies
Strategic communication planning.
Proficiency in digital and social media tools.
Strong editorial and writing skills in English.
Media relations and networking.
Video production and photography.
