Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking a qualified Project Manager to be based in Kilifi. The role involves providing technical guidance in the development, implementation, and review of study strategic and operational plans, budgets, and policies. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing project staff, managing risks, and ensuring that all project activities align with strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Guidance: Provide technical expertise in project management for the development and review of operational plans, budgets, and procedures.
Risk Management: Develop and maintain the Project’s risk register to identify and track potential threats, implementing clear mitigation strategies.
Staff Supervision: Manage and oversee assigned Project Staff to ensure operational efficiency and delivery of the Project Mandate.
Decision Support: Provide scheduled and ad hoc reports, strategic advice, and management briefs to regulatory agencies and partners.
Operational Effectiveness: Design project structures, work schedules, and milestones; identify potential delays or bottlenecks and implement strategies to address them.
Representation: Represent research projects to internal committees, scientific audiences, funding agencies, and external organizations.
Compliance: Ensure full compliance with internal ethical protocols and Research Governance policies, as well as external legal and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Social Sciences, or a relevant field from a recognized university. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.
Project Scope: Experience managing large and multidisciplinary projects is mandatory.
Integrity: Demonstrated high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Leadership: Ability to build and motivate diverse teams, delegate effectively, and demonstrate strong decision-making skills.
Stakeholder Management: Ability to build collaborative relationships with varied stakeholders.
Results Oriented: Proven ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines.
