Role Overview
The Project Assistant (Case Worker) is responsible for implementing child protection case management services for children at risk in Kakuma. This role involves conducting Best Interest Assessments (BIAs), developing case plans, and providing direct support to ensure children's safety and well-being. The position requires coordination with community volunteers, local authorities (such as the State Department of Children Services), and inter-agency partners.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management and Direct Support
Conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIAs) and initial assessments for children at risk following inter-agency standard operating procedures.
Manage a caseload by providing regular follow-ups and ensuring timely documentation.
Monitor safe alternative care arrangements (foster care) in collaboration with the State Department of Children Services.
Conduct home visits and interviews with families, teachers, and community leaders to assess the child’s environment.
Maintain accurate and confidential case files in compliance with Save the Children (SCI) data protection standards.
Coordination and Referral Pathways
Identify and refer children to essential services including health, education, psychosocial support, and legal aid.
Work closely with Child Protection volunteers and government partners to support case management in refugee camps and host communities.
Participate in case conferences and Child Protection Working Group (CPWG) meetings.
Reporting, Monitoring & Evaluation
Update records in the CPIMS+ system for review by the Case Manager.
Prepare periodic progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Document best practices and lessons learned from field activities.
Assist the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) team with data collection and evaluations.
Escalate safeguarding concerns immediately to the Programme Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Community Development, or relevant social sciences.
Experience: 1–2 years in child protection, social work, or humanitarian programming.
Essential: Prior experience in child protection and Best Interest Determination (BID) processes in refugee settings.
Advantage: Experience using CPIMS+ software.
Languages: Fluency in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of local languages spoken in the Kakuma camps/host community is preferred.
