The Commission for University Education (CUE) is seeking a Principal Librarian (Job Grade CUE 4). The Principal Librarian is responsible for overseeing the management of the Commission's internal Library and Information Resource Centre while simultaneously regulating and assuring the quality of library services and facilities across all Kenyan universities. This role involves developing inspection frameworks, evaluating academic library resources, and ensuring the Commission's digital and physical information services meet institutional excellence standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Inspecting library services and facilities of universities and preparation of reports.
Assessing university libraries self-evaluation reports.
Designing instruments for inspection of university libraries.
Preparing quarterly and annual work plans.
Coordinating the preparation of library inspection reports.
Coordinating the evaluation of library resources (self-evaluation) reports.
Providing secretariat services to the Quality Assurance Committee.
Managing the Library and Information Resource Centre in the Commission.
Overseeing provision of library and information services to library users.
Supervising technical services in the Commission Resource Centre, such as classification and cataloguing, indexing and abstracting of acquired information resources.
Coordinating training and sensitization of CUE library users on information access.
Overseeing implementation of policies pertaining to the day to day running of the library.
Coordinating the acquisitions and maintenance of library & information resources.
Overseeing management and population of CUE digital repository.
Coordinating the library management system.
Overseeing implementation of the library development policy of the Commission.
Requirements for Appointment
A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role.
Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Master's degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Membership to a professional body and in good standing.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfill the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.
