Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking Part-time Tutors for the Social Work department to promote human resource development for society’s progressive good.
Role Overview
The role involves planning, preparing, and teaching units as outlined in the curriculum, assessing students, and contributing to the development of a high-quality curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units in line with the course curriculum and outlines.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Learning: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor achievement, and supervise students during assessments.
Grading & Reporting: Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs; contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of high-quality curricula.
Departmental Participation: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Social Work or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Certification: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Pedagogy: Completion of pedagogy training.
Professional Registration: Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry is considered an added advantage.
Requirements for Language/Short Course Tutors (If Applicable)
Earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., German: Goethe-Zertifikat, Italian: CELI, French: DELF, English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience, preferably up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
