Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking to recruit qualified Part-time Tutors for Science Laboratory Technology. The successful candidates will be responsible for planning, preparing, and teaching assigned units in accordance with the course curriculum, developing learning materials, and maintaining professional records to monitor student progress.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare and teach the units assigned, as outlined in the course outline in line with the course curriculum.
Develop learning materials, timely preparation and submission of professional records, and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Plan, develop and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assess students' work and monitor their achievement.
Take part in the Course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs.
Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and timely upload marks in the MIS of the units assigned.
Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervise students during assessments.
Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must have the following:
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant work experience in industry will be an added advantage.
Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Have completed pedagogy training.
Requirements for Language Short Courses
To qualify for appointment to teach short courses, a candidate must meet the following requirements:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (German: Goethe-Zertifikat; Italian: CELI; French: DELF; English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
