Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors in the field of Plumbing to support its educational goals and technical training programs.
Job Purpose
The tutor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction to trainees, ensuring they acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in plumbing as per the established curriculum and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units as outlined in the course curriculum.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Support: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor their achievement, and supervise students during assessments.
Grading: Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and ensure timely uploading of marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Training: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in the course review process.
Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements for Appointment
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Plumbing or a relevant technical area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Registration by a relevant professional body (where applicable).
Completion of pedagogy training.
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Additional Requirements for Short Courses (General)
For candidates assigned to teach language-based short courses, the following apply:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (German, Italian, French, English, or Kiswahili).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
