Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking qualified individuals to join its team as Part-time Tutors specifically for the Perioperative Theatre Technology program. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, managing student assessments, and contributing to the academic development of the department.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units as outlined in the course curriculum and unit outlines.
Learning Management: Develop relevant learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Support: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students where necessary.
Assessment and Marking: Assess students' work, monitor their achievement, and handle the examining and marking of Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments), including timely uploading of marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Training: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and practical sessions.
Curriculum Quality: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in the course review process to adapt delivery patterns to student needs.
Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
Academic Background: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Professional Registration: Be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVET Authority) and be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Pedagogy: Must have completed pedagogy training.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be considered an added advantage.
Requirements for Language Short Courses
Candidates applying to teach short courses in languages must meet these specific requirements:
Language Proficiency: An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (German: Goethe-Zertifikat; Italian: CELI; French: DELF; English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
Experience: At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Methodology: Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
