Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors for the Medical Laboratory Sciences department. The successful candidates will be responsible for academic instruction, curriculum delivery, and the practical training of students, contributing to the university's goal of promoting human resource development.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum and unit outlines.
Learning Materials: Develop relevant learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Planning: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans tailored to individual student needs.
Assessment and Marking: Assess students' work, examine and mark Continuous Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts) and end-of-term assessments, and ensure timely uploading of marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and examinations.
Curriculum Engagement: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in departmental meetings.
Course Review: Take part in the course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs.
Requirements for Medical Laboratory Sciences Tutors
Education: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Registration: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Professional Body: Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Pedagogy: Must have completed pedagogy training.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Additional Requirements for Short Course Tutors (Languages)
Candidates applying for language-specific short courses (German, Italian, French, English, Kiswahili) must have:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., Goethe-Zertifikat, CELI, DELF, or a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
