Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking qualified individuals to join as Part-time Tutors for the Maritime Transport and Logistics Management program. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and support to students within the department.
Role and Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare and teach the units assigned, as outlined in the course outline in line with the course curriculum.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials, ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records, and maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
Individual Support: Plan, develop and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor their achievement, and handle the examining and marking of Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end of term assessments).
Record Keeping: Timely uploading of marks in the Management Information System (MIS) for the units assigned.
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments.
Curriculum Development: Take part in the course review process, adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs, and contribute to the planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Administrative Tasks: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
General Requirements
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Completion of pedagogy training.
Language Short Course Requirements
To qualify for appointment to teach short courses (German, Italian, French, English, or Kiswahili), a candidate must have:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., Goethe-Zertifikat for German, CELI for Italian, DELF for French, or a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics for English/Kiswahili).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
