Mount Kenya University is seeking qualified and dedicated individuals to join as Part-time Tutors for ICT Technician units. The role involves providing comprehensive educational support, delivering curriculum-aligned instruction, and managing student assessments within the university's technical and vocational frameworks.
Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units as outlined in the course curriculum and outlines.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records.
Progress Monitoring: Maintain accurate records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Personalized Instruction: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans tailored to individual student needs.
Assessment and Grading: Assess student work, mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments), and timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Training: Conduct practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments to maintain academic standards.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of high-quality curricula and participate in the course review process.
Departmental Engagement: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
TVET Registration: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Professional Body: Must be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Pedagogy: Must have completed formal pedagogy training.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be considered an added advantage.
Requirements for Short Courses (Linguistic)
For candidates interested in teaching short language courses, the following additional requirements apply:
Proficiency: Earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (German: Goethe-Zertifikat; Italian: CELI; French: DELF; English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
Teaching Experience: At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Methodology: Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
