Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors for the Health Service Support Provider program and various language short courses. The university is looking for individuals who can facilitate high-quality education and contribute to the progressive development of human resources.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach units assigned in line with the course curriculum and approved course outlines.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Learning: Plan and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor achievement, and conduct Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments).
Records Management: Timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS) for assigned units.
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and examinations.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in the course review process.
Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
Standard Tutor Requirements
An earned Bachelor’s degree in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Must have completed pedagogy training.
Relevant work experience in the industry is an added advantage.
Language Short Course Tutor Requirements
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language:
German: Goethe-Zertifikat
Italian: CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana)
French: DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française)
English: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
