Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors for its Hair Dressing program. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality vocational training, supervising practical sessions, and ensuring students meet the required technical competencies.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum and outlines.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students to ensure their academic growth.
Student Assessment: Assess student work and monitor their achievement. This includes examining and marking Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and timely uploading of marks in the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Training: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Records Management: Timely preparation and submission of professional records and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in the course review process.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and practical workshops.
Administrative Support: Participation in departmental meetings and other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
Academic Qualification: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area (Hair Dressing/Cosmetology/Vocational Education) from a recognized/accredited university.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
TVETA Registration: Be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority.
Pedagogy Training: Have successfully completed pedagogy training.
Professional Registration: Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Requirements for Language/Short Course Tutors (General Template)
Note: While this specific vacancy is for Hair Dressing, the university also requires the following for language short courses:
German: Goethe-Zertifikat B2 Proficiency.
Italian: CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana).
French: DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française).
English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
