Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking qualified individuals to join as Part-time Tutors for the Food and Production department.
Job Purpose
The Part-time Tutor will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to trainees, ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum, and maintaining professional records of student progress. The role involves both theoretical teaching and practical instruction in the field of Food and Production.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum.
Learning Support: Develop learning materials and appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor their achievement, and supervise students during assessments.
Record Keeping: Maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance; timely preparation and submission of professional records.
Examination: Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and timely upload marks in the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Curriculum Development: Take part in the course review process, adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs, and contribute to the implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
General Requirements for Appointment:
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Food and Production or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Must have completed pedagogy training.
Requirements for Short Course Instruction:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language:
German: Goethe-Zertifikat
Italian: CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana)
French: DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française)
English/Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
