Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic, and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to fill the position of Part-time Tutors for Cyber Security. The role involves delivering high-quality instruction, managing student assessments, and contributing to the overall academic excellence of the department.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum and unit outlines.
Learning Material Development: Develop learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Learning: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students where necessary.
Assessment and Grading: Assess students' work, monitor achievement, and conduct/mark Continuous Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts) and end-of-term assessments. Timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Practical Training: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and examinations.
Curriculum Improvement: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and participate in the course review process.
Departmental Engagement: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements for Appointment
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Completion of pedagogy training is required.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Relevant industry work experience will be an added advantage.
Requirements for Short Courses (Where Applicable)
For candidates seeking to teach specific short courses/languages, requirements include:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., German, Italian, French, English, or Kiswahili).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
