Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic, and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit qualified Part-time Tutors specializing in Criminal Justice Management to promote human resource development for society’s progressive good.
Responsibilities
Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individualized Planning: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment and Grading: Assess student work, examine and mark Trainee Assessment Tests (CATs and end-of-term assessments), and timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS) for assigned units.
Portfolio Management: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Academic Quality: Participate in the course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs.
Administrative Support: Supervise students during assessments, participate in departmental meetings, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Criminal Justice Management or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Certification: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Professional Registration: Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Pedagogy: Must have completed pedagogy training.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be an added advantage.
Requirements for Short Course Tutors (if applicable)
Note: These requirements apply specifically to tutors for language or communicative methodologies.
Language Certification: Earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in German (Goethe-Zertifikat), Italian (CELI), French (DELF), English (Linguistics), or Kiswahili (Linguistics).
Experience: At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Methodology: Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
