Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced individuals as Part-time Tutors in the field of Computer Science and for various language short courses. The primary role involves delivering high-quality instruction, managing student assessments, and contributing to curriculum development.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Delivery: Plan, prepare, and teach the units assigned as outlined in the course curriculum and unit outlines.
- Learning Materials: Develop relevant learning materials and ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records.
- Student Monitoring: Maintain accurate records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
- Personalized Learning: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Assessment and Grading: Assess students' work, monitor achievement, and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments), ensuring timely uploading of marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
- Practical Training: Conduct practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in the course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs.
- Supervision: Supervise students during assessments and examinations.
- Curriculum Implementation: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
- Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
For Computer Science Tutors:
- Education: An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Computer Science or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
- Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
- Certification: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
- Professional Membership: Be registered by the relevant Professional Body where applicable.
- Pedagogy: Completion of pedagogy training is required.
- Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry will be considered an added advantage.
For Short Course Language Tutors:
- Proficiency: An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language:
- German: Goethe-Zertifikat
- Italian: CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana)
- French: DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française)
- English: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
- Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
- Experience: At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
- Methodology: Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
