Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. The university is looking for qualified and experienced individuals to join as Part-time Tutors in Community Health Nursing. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and academic support to students within the nursing department.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Planning: Plan, prepare and teach the units assigned, as outlined in the course outline and in line with the curriculum.
Learning Materials: Develop learning materials and ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records.
Student Monitoring: Maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Individual Support: Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assessment: Assess students' work, monitor their achievement, and supervise them during assessments.
Examination: Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and upload marks into the MIS in a timely manner.
Practical Instruction: Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the course review process and contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Departmental Engagement: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must have:
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in Community Health Nursing or a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant work experience in the industry is an added advantage.
Must be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Completion of pedagogy training.
Requirements for Short Course Tutors (Languages):
If teaching language short courses, candidates require:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (German: Goethe-Zertifikat, Italian: CELI, French: DELF, English: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, or Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
