Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors for Business Management and Language Short Courses.
General Qualifications
To qualify for appointment as a Business Management Tutor, candidates must possess:
An earned Bachelor’s degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years teaching experience in a similar institution.
Registration as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant work experience in the industry is an added advantage.
Registration by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).
Completion of pedagogy training.
Language Short Course Qualifications
To qualify for appointment to teach short courses in languages, candidates must have:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language:
German: Goethe-Zertifikat
Italian: CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana)
French: DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française)
English: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
Kiswahili: Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably teaching up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units in line with the course curriculum.
Develop learning materials and maintain professional records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Plan, develop, and deliver appropriate learning plans for individual students.
Assess student work and monitor their achievement through marking Assessment Tests (CATs and end-of-term assessments).
Timely upload of marks into the Management Information System (MIS).
Take part in the course review process and adapt delivery patterns to meet student needs.
Carry out practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervise students during assessments.
Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of high-quality curriculum.
Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
