Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking to recruit Part-time Tutors for Broadcast Journalism. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, developing learning materials, and assessing student performance within the journalism department. The university is a fully fledged chartered institution committed to holistic education and human resource development.
Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units in line with the course curriculum and outline.
Develop relevant learning materials and ensure timely preparation and submission of professional records.
Maintain accurate records to monitor student progress, achievement, and attendance.
Plan, develop, and deliver individualized learning plans for students when necessary.
Assess student work, monitor achievements, and provide constructive feedback.
Participate in course review processes and adapt delivery methods to meet student needs.
Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments) and upload marks timely into the Management Information System (MIS).
Conduct practical instructions for trainees and maintain their portfolios of evidence.
Supervise students during assessments and contribute to the development of a high-quality curriculum.
Participate in departmental meetings and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
An earned Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field from a recognized/accredited university.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Relevant industry work experience is an added advantage.
Must be registered with a relevant Professional Body where applicable.
Must have completed pedagogy training.
Requirements for Short Courses (Languages)
For candidates seeking to teach specific language short courses, the following are required:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., Goethe-Zertifikat for German, CELI for Italian, DELF for French, or a Bachelor’s in Linguistics for English/Kiswahili).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably up to B2 level.
Experience with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
