Mount Kenya University (MKU), a fully fledged chartered university, is seeking qualified and experienced Part-time Tutors for Beauty Therapy. The successful candidates will be responsible for promoting human resource development by delivering high-quality instruction and training in beauty therapy.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Teaching: Plan, prepare, and teach assigned units in accordance with the course curriculum and outlines.
Learning Materials and Records: Develop learning materials, prepare professional records, and maintain student progress, achievement, and attendance logs.
Student Support: Create and deliver individualized learning plans and provide practical instructions for trainees.
Assessment: Examine and mark Trainees’ Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts and end-of-term assessments), supervise students during assessments, and maintain portfolios of evidence.
Data Management: Timely upload marks into the Management Information System (MIS) for assigned units.
Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of high-quality curricula and participate in course reviews.
Administrative Duties: Participate in departmental meetings and perform other tasks assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
Education: An earned Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area from a recognized or accredited university.
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a similar institution.
Registration: Must be registered as a Trainer by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
Professional Membership: Registration with a relevant professional body where applicable.
Training: Completion of pedagogy training.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the industry is considered an added advantage.
Additional Requirements for Short Course Tutors
If teaching short language courses, candidates must have:
An earned B2 Proficiency Level certificate or degree in the relevant language (e.g., German: Goethe-Zertifikat, Italian: CELI, French: DELF, or a Bachelor’s in Linguistics for English/Kiswahili).
At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a similar institution, preferably at the B2 level.
Familiarity with CEFR-aligned curricula and communicative teaching methodologies.
