Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking qualified Part-Time Trainers in Maritime Safety to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs. The trainer will facilitate learning on key STCW safety courses, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness in line with international maritime standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development & Delivery: Develop and deliver training programs on maritime safety, including STCW safety courses (e.g., Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Firefighting, First Aid).
Safety Concepts: Teach risk assessment, hazard identification, and emergency preparedness and response.
Compliance Training: Guide trainees on Safety Management Systems (SMS) and ISM Code compliance.
Session Facilitation: Conduct classroom and practical training sessions using modern instructional techniques.
Evaluation: Evaluate trainee performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Materials Maintenance: Maintain and update training materials in line with regulatory changes and industry best practices.
Audit Support: Support audits and inspections related to safety training and compliance.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Prior training experience.
Certified trainer with relevant maritime safety qualifications (e.g., STCW, IMO Model Courses).
Strong knowledge of international maritime safety regulations and standards.
Minimum of 2-3 years’ sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution is highly desirable.
Registered member of a relevant professional body in good standing will be an added advantage.
