Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking qualified individuals to join as Part-Time Trainers in Marine Engineering. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering high-quality maritime training and education to students, ensuring compliance with national and international maritime standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach courses in marine propulsion systems, thermodynamics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and shipboard maintenance.
Conduct practical training in engine room simulators and workshops.
Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with IMO STCW standards.
Guide and mentor students in academic and professional development.
Evaluate student performance and provide feedback for improvement.
Support students in preparation for certification exams and onboard training.
Contribute to the development and enhancement of the marine engineering curriculum.
Integrate modern technologies and industry practices into training modules.
Ensure training programs meet national and international maritime education standards.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessments.
Collaborate with other trainers, academic staff, and industry stakeholders.
Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development activities.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Marine Engineering or related field.
Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Marine Engineer Officer (STCW III/2 or III/3).
Minimum of 2-3 years’ sea service and prior teaching or training experience in a maritime institution is highly desirable.
Familiarity with IMO Model Courses and STCW requirements.
