The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization with nearly a century of experience in operating schools in Kenya. The P1 Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons in Mathematics and English, fostering a supportive classroom environment, and contributing to the holistic development of young learners in line with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and the school’s mission. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues and parents to ensure each child achieves their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Lesson Delivery: Prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the school’s vision and mission.
Curriculum Planning: Collaboratively develop unit and lesson plans for the curriculum; produce documents such as Unit plans, Records of Work, Course outlines, and class analyses.
Student Progress: Ensure students acquire excellent knowledge and skills to make progress, achieve their targets, and are prepared for the next stage of their education.
Inclusion: Differentiate lessons to match learners’ needs and guide students with learning differences or behavioral challenges.
Learning Activities: Involve learners in activities such as storytelling, role plays, and number/letter recognition.
Environment & Excursions: Display learners’ work in the classroom to showcase their abilities and plan regular excursions to expose them to different environments.
Behavioral Support: Observe the behavior of children and help them improve by building self-confidence and teaching social values.
Reporting: Manage and update progress reports for children and communicate effectively with parents.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Must hold a PTE Certificate (P1 Certificate) from KNEC.
Academic Grade: Minimum of B- in O-levels.
Professional Registration: Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Experience: At least 1-2 years of teaching experience.
Curriculum Knowledge: Must be conversant with the new Competency Based Education (CBC).
IT Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office computer applications.
Added Advantage: A Bachelor’s degree in Education is preferred.
