The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) is seeking an Officer, Reconciliations & Budgets (Business Analyst 1). The primary purpose of this role is to facilitate and ensure efficient and effective reconciliation of Banking Services accounts in accordance with guidelines from the Enterprise Risk Management Division. Additionally, the successful candidate will oversee the formulation and implementation of the Banking Services Strategy and its associated budgets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Technical and Operational Responsibilities
KEPSS - T24 Reconciliation: Perform and prepare daily dashboards and reports for KEPSS-T24 reconciliations for all commercial banks’ accounts (KES, DFCC, and EAPS).
Item Identification: Identify items causing differences in commercial bank balances between the KEPSS and T24 systems and communicate with relevant business areas for resolution.
BOPA Reconciliation: Conduct daily reconciliations for the Banking Office Payments Account (BOPA), identifying stale cheques and discrepancies for follow-up and cancellation.
Internal Accounts: Perform reconciliation for Banking Services Internal Suspense Accounts and coordinate with relevant offices to resolve differences.
Budget Management: Collate data for annual budgets, prepare monthly budget variance reports, and quarterly CAPEX budget reports.
Process Improvement: Contribute to the development of processes and systems to improve the efficiency and quality of reconciliation workflows.
Compliance & Risk: Adhere to operational and security policies to prevent fraud and loss; monitor strategic initiative implementations.
Performance Management: Assist in coordinating Performance Management (PMAS) activities, including mid-term and end-year appraisals.
Branch & Operational Support: Offer support to branches on reconciliation and risk management issues; audit tellers' cash balances at the close of business.
Reporting: Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports for supervisors and escalate unresolved issues to the Section Head.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
A professional qualification in Banking, Accounting, Finance, or Risk Management is an added advantage.
Experience
At least two (2) years of professional work experience specifically in reconciliations within Banking Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting environments.
Skills and Competencies
Proficiency in banking systems (T24 and KEPSS preferred).
Strong financial reporting and variance analysis skills.
Solid understanding of risk management and internal controls.
Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
Attention to detail and analytical mindset.
