The Clearing Operations Section at the Central Bank of Kenya provides essential clearing and settlement services to commercial banks, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, while also managing the operations of the Automated Clearing House (ACH).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operations Management: Contribute to the smooth operations of the Clearing Section and ensure compliance with Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) Standards and Regulations.
Transaction Processing: Process outward and inward cheques, cheque verification, and facilitate the processing of non-CTS compliant cheques.
Electronic Payments: Handle outward and inward Electronic Funds Transfers (EFTs) credits and process Domestic Foreign Currency Cheque Clearing (DFCCC).
System Operations: Download inward payments from and upload outward payments to the Automated Clearing House. Operate MICR cheque readers systems.
Codes & Maintenance: Input and approve Clearing Voucher/Return codes, Bank and Branches codes, and maintain Direct Debit codes in the ACH system as advised by KBA.
System Administration: Create and manage Bank Admin profiles, provide/reset passwords for the ACH system, and lock access for staff who have left.
Monitoring & Settlement: Monitor net settlement instruction (NSI) files from Payment Switch Operators (Kenswitch, IPSL, and Interswitch Kenya) in KEPSS.
Risk & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to operational, security, and control policies to prevent fraud and financial loss to the Bank.
Additional Support: Support branch clearing operations, audit designated cashiers as scheduled, and perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field of study.
Professional Certification: A professional qualification in Banking, Accounting, Finance, or Risk Management is considered an added advantage.
Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in Payments and Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting.
