The Officer, Banking Services at the Central Bank of Kenya (Mombasa Branch) is responsible for providing high-quality banking and financial market services. This role ensures the efficient execution of various functions, including account management, clearing operations, and financial reconciliations, all while maintaining strict adherence to the Bank’s procedures and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Support
Contribute to the achievement of the Bank’s strategic objectives and departmental performance goals.
Maintain working relationships with external stakeholders, including Government departments, County Governments, and commercial banks.
Comply with all Bank policies, internal controls, and procedural guidelines.
Customer Service & Account Management
Provide professional customer care and maintain order in the Banking Hall.
Manage account lifecycles, including opening, amending, and closing accounts.
Process mandates (creation/withdrawal) and Internet Banking application forms.
Issue account statements and prepare certificates of balances for County Governments upon request.
Assist customers with navigating the DhowCSD system and respond to inquiries regarding Government securities investments.
Transaction Processing & Financial Operations
Execute teller functions and input funds transfer transactions in the T24 system.
Perform first-level verification and approval of document instructions and transaction reversals.
Handle clearing operations: swipe cheques using MICR readers, manage outward cheques, and process unpaid cheques via Image Return Documents (IRDs).
Prepare reconciliations for internal suspense accounts and maintain the unit's risk register.
Implement audit recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.
Systems & Administration
Participate in system testing (UAT) for new developments in Banking or Financial Markets operations.
Manage document retention and disposal according to policy.
Contribute to the preparation of the Banking Strategic Plan and annual unit budgets.
Conduct Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) surveys as required.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Professional qualification (CPA, AKIB, etc.) in Banking, Accounting, Finance, or Risk Management is an added advantage.
Experience
At least two (2) years of work experience in Banking Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting.
