Job Description
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. The National Project Officer will support the day-to-day management and implementation of CMIL Africa projects, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with IOM and donor requirements.
Responsibilities
Support the day-to-day management and implementation of CMIL Africa projects, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with IOM and donor requirements.
Work with ICPAC and other CMIL key partners to support the planning, organization, and execution of the 1st Regional CMIL Climate Mobility Symposium in March 2026.
Liaise with the IOM event team in Nairobi to arrange venue, visa, transportation, and logistical arrangements for all participants.
In collaboration with IOM’s RO and ICPAC, finalize the event programme and agenda, identifying topics and speakers for both policy and technical segments.
Support the development of presentation materials such as slide decks and talking points for the Symposium.
Draft the Symposium report and other related materials; manage speaker and attendee participation and logistics during the event.
Contribute to the operational rollout of the Climate Catalytic Fund (CCF) including coordination of calls for proposals, grant administration, and monitoring.
Assist in day-to-day monitoring and facilitate technical level coordination of CCF with CMIL Global to ensure compliance.
Liaise regularly with IOM Country Offices involved in CMIL initiatives to support implementation, troubleshooting, and reporting.
Coordinate engagement with external partners, including universities, research institutions, technical experts, local authorities, and NGOs.
Support the development and application of methodologies, tools, and guidance related to climate mobility and displacement risk.
Assist in monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) of CMIL and CCF activities.
Draft and consolidate technical reports, concept notes, briefs, and donor updates.
Support internal and external communication efforts, including social media, newsletters, and knowledge products.
Facilitate coordination with internal support functions (procurement, finance, HR, legal, ICT) to ensure compliance.
Support budget monitoring and financial tracking for CMIL and CCF-related activities.
Assist in organizing workshops, consultations, and capacity-building events, including travel and catering logistics.
Contribute to risk analysis and contextual assessments where climate impacts intersect with conflict and fragility.
Support the identification and documentation of innovative, scalable, and locally led solutions to climate-induced displacement.
Undertake duty travel relating to project implementation, monitoring visits, and liaison with counterparts.
Requirements
Education
Master’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; OR
Bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned subjects with four years of relevant experience.
Experience
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
Experience in working on issues related to climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, humanitarian responses, internal displacement, and migration.
Experience in organizing international events and workshop planning, implementation, and follow-up reporting.
Demonstrated understanding of project development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
Demonstrated experience collaborating with a broad set of governmental, humanitarian, and development actors.
Experience working on grant management.
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
