The MS / HS Life Center Ed Educational (LCE) Teacher at The International School of Kenya (ISK) is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities within an inclusive middle and high school setting. ISK is known for its culture of excellence and personalized student support. The LCE teacher plays a pivotal role in ensuring that every student is known, supported, and given the opportunity to explore their academic and personal potential through specialized pedagogy and curriculum design.
Responsibilities and Duties
Inclusive Integration: Facilitate the effective integration of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities into general education settings.
Curriculum & Pedagogy: Design and implement curriculum based on the Understanding by Design (UbD) model, conceptual inquiry, and student-centered approaches.
Social-Emotional Learning: Integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into the daily educational experience to support holistic student development.
Assessment: Develop and apply appropriate assessment strategies to monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
Collaboration: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure a supportive learning community.
Cultural Proficiency: Apply a culturally proficient lens to all instructional practices and classroom interactions.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Master’s Degree in Special Education, with a specific emphasis on developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Certification: Must hold a current teaching certificate from an accredited university or college.
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience teaching students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an inclusive setting (international school experience is highly preferred).
Skills: Strong understanding of UbD models, SEL, and conceptual inquiry-based learning.
