About the Role
UNICEF is seeking a qualified National Media Consultant for its Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships Section based in Nairobi, Kenya. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing effective media communication strategies to advocate for child rights, crafting strategic media materials, and strengthening relationships with key media partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Proven experience in developing media communication strategies.
- Excellent writing skills, especially in writing press releases and articles/stories for traditional and electronic media.
- Proven ability to research, analyse, evaluate, and synthesize information.
- Solid and proven media contacts and knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, and the role of mass media.
- Proven ability to work as part of a team and have a strong understanding of UNICEF programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- A Master’s degree in journalism, Mass Media, Communications, Development Studies, or related fields required.
Work Experience
- At least 8 years’ relevant professional work experience in communication, print, broadcast media, and online media, including experience covering children’s issues for a child rights organisation such as UNICEF.
Language Requirements
- Mastery of English and Kiswahili are required, at the minimum, both oral and written.
