Job Description
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking Media and Communications Consultants to support its operations in Kenya. Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners. The Media and Communications Consultant will be responsible for implementing external communication strategies, managing digital outreach, and enhancing IOM's brand visibility.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Strategy Implementation: Contribute to IOM Kenya’s external communications strategies to promote accurate narratives on migration-related issues.
Content Creation: Develop communications content aligned with brand guidelines and create training materials for staff capacity building.
High-Profile Event Support: Assist the Chief of Mission with media interviews, speeches, and 'Lines to Take' for visibility events.
Digital Presence: Manage social media accounts and the official website to increase digital impact.
Media Liaison: Maintain media contact lists, coordinate responses to media requests, and organize press briefings and trainings.
Content Drafting: Prepare key messages, statements, talking points, and other background documents.
Inter-Agency Coordination: Collaborate with the UN Country Team’s Communication Group on joint campaigns.
Data Visualization: Support the design of research products (fact sheets, reports) and enhance visual elements of statistical products generated by DTM teams.
Field Documentation: Travel to gather multi-media content (photos and video footage) from field activities, ensuring informed consent is obtained.
Inclusion Standards: Ensure gender, diversity, and inclusion awareness in all external communications.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Communication, Journalism, or related fields.
Experience:
Five (5) years of relevant professional experience in Communication, Journalism, or International Relations/Development.
Experience working for an international organization (such as the UN) is highly preferred.
Specific experience in digital communications and social media management is required.
