Marine Spatial Data Analyst (Maternity Cover)

Working closely with the Head of Spatial Ecology, Ecological Data Scientist, and the wider Data Science team, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving Blue Ventures' spatial data infrastructure, ensuring it remains reliable, well-documented, and responsive to programme needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical stewardship of Blue Ventures' spatial data system and infrastructure.
• Maintain and improve spatial databases, interactive dashboards, and decision-support tools for community-based fisheries management.
• Perform spatial data management, database administration, data visualisation, and user engagement activities.
• Support marine spatial planning analyses and development of user-centred decision-support tools.
• Work collaboratively within a small, distributed global team and coordinate across regions and cultures.
• Competently drive own tasks and team priorities while adapting to varying working styles and communication norms.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree qualification (BA/BSc/HND) in Spatial Data Science, GIS, Marine Ecology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong background in spatial data management and analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for using data to support community-led marine conservation.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a remote, global team structure.
• Experience coordinating effectively across regions and cultures with flexibility and openness.

Work Structure

• Full-time remote position (maternity cover) with occasional international travel to collaborate with colleagues, partners, field teams, and coastal communities.
