About the Company
The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is a fully government-owned company in Kenya's energy sector. GDC was formed in 2008 as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to accelerate the development of geothermal resources in Kenya. GDC is tasked with developing steam fields and selling geothermal steam for electricity generation to KenGen and to private investors. Geothermal steam is an environmentally friendly and abundant raw material used for generating electricity.
Role Overview
The Managing Director & CEO provides strategic direction in carrying out the business of the company by providing leadership while fostering a culture that enhances corporate image, promotes ethical practices and good governance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides strategic direction in carrying out the business of the company by providing leadership while fostering a culture that enhances corporate image, promotes ethical practices and good governance.
Responsible for implementation of the Board’s resolutions in a result-oriented and timely manner to achieve the company’s strategic goals and objectives, while ensuring that all Board papers are accurately written, are relevant and are availed to the Board members in good time. Be the link between the Board and Management.
Spearheads the exploration of geothermal resources, infrastructural development, and drilling of geothermal wells.
Drives development of steam fields, and prudent management of geothermal resources.
Promotes innovation, utilization and commercialization of Geothermal Direct Use projects and products.
Oversees effective management of Human Resources for optimal productivity through policies and strategies that attract and retain qualified and competent staff as per approved establishment.
Provide an advisory role to the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary on the country’s energy mix and sector policy development.
Provide regular and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial, and administrative matters.
Develop and recommend to the Board the annual business plans for the Company.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
At least fifteen (15) years’ work experience, ten (10) of which should have been in a relevant management role.
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.
Master’s Degree from a recognized University.
Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks (cumulative) from a recognized institution.
Professional qualification and membership of a professional body (where applicable).
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
