The Librarian (Job Grade Cue 6) at the Commission for University Education is responsible for managing information resources and providing essential library services. This role involves organizing library materials, developing access aids, and assisting users in navigating both physical and digital resources to ensure quality and compliance within university education standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Developing information access aids such as indexes, annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, and online tutorials.
Sorting and shelving books, publications, and other items according to established procedures.
Locating materials for users and instructing them on the use of reference sources and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
Searching online sources and the Internet to answer patrons' reference questions.
Analyzing user requests to assist in locating needed information.
Responding to customer complaints and taking necessary actions.
Advising clients on Commission standards and guidelines for library resources.
Editing library resource evaluation reports and examining proposals for compliance.
Coordinating the weeding, stock-taking, cataloging, and classification of library books and periodicals.
Requirements and Person Specification
Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science.
Valid membership to a professional body in good standing.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Fulfillment of the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
