The National Legal Aid Service (NLAS) is seeking to recruit qualified individuals for the position of Legal Clerk I (10 Posts) on permanent and pensionable terms.
Position Overview
The Legal Clerk I will be responsible for managing legal documentation, maintaining registry records, serving court processes, and supporting the legal officers in executing the mandate of the National Legal Aid Service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Filing Contracts and court documents.
Serving legal documents to clients and other stakeholders.
Maintaining an up-to-date court file registry to ensure the safe custody of the files.
Responding to inquiries regarding specific cases.
Bringing up files to the relevant officer for briefing and action.
Preparing accurate quarterly reports on cases where actions have been taken.
Receiving, compiling, and organizing information for the preparation of pleadings with necessary annexures.
Preparing, certifying, serving, and following up processing of judgment, orders, findings, recommendations, decrees, and warrants.
Monitoring progress of contracts and court cases.
Maintaining and updating the court case diary.
Qualifications and Requirements
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
At least six (6) years’ cumulative work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Legal Clerk II or in a comparable position in the Private or Public Sector.
Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C plain.
Diploma in Legal Studies from a recognized institution.
Certificate in Records Management.
Certificate in Computer Application skills.
Shown merits and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Remuneration and Terms of Service
Salary Scale: Ksh. 68,500 x 5,000 – 73,500 x 5,000 – 78,500 x 5,000 – 83,500 x 5,000 – 88,500 x 5,000 – 93,500 x 5,000 – 98,500 x 5,000 – 103,500 p.m.
Terms of Service: Permanent and pensionable terms.
