Taita Taveta University (TTU), a public university located in Voi, Taita Taveta County, is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill the positions of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer within the History department. As an Academic Centre of Excellence, the university is looking for candidates who can contribute significantly to teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision.
Role Overview
The role involves academic instruction in History and related pedagogical methods, conducting and publishing impactful research, and guiding postgraduate students through their academic journey. Successful candidates will be appointed on permanent and pensionable terms and will be expected to participate in the university's governance and departmental administration.
Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate lectures in History and Subject Methods (History).
Conduct original research in specific areas of historical specialization and publish findings in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
Supervise postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) through their research and thesis development to completion.
Develop and review academic curricula to ensure they meet modern educational and industry standards.
Participate in departmental and university committee meetings.
Contribute to community outreach programs and professional development initiatives within the field of education and history.
Requirements for Lecturer (Grade 12)
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in History or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
Requirements for Senior Lecturer (Grade 13)
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in History or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer OR six (6) years of research/industry experience.
A minimum of four (4) articles in refereed journals OR a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
Successful supervision of at least three (3) post-graduate students at either Masters or PhD level to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
Terms of Service
Positions are on Permanent and Pensionable Terms.
Successful candidates will be entitled to applicable allowances as approved by the University Council.
