Role Overview
Kenyatta University is a multi-campus public university in Kenya. The university is seeking a qualified and experienced academic to join the Department of Special Needs Education as a Lecturer, specifically specializing in Intellectual Disability. This role involves teaching at the university level, conducting impactful research, and contributing to the academic growth of the department.
Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver academic instruction and lectures in Special Needs Education with a focus on Intellectual Disability.
Conduct research in the field of Special Needs Education and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
Provide academic mentorship and guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Contribute to the development and review of the departmental curriculum.
Participate in departmental and university-wide administrative duties and committees.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Must have a PhD (Special Needs Education), a Master’s Degree (Special Needs Education), and a Bachelor of Education (Special Needs Education), all specializing in Intellectual Disability.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience at a university or institution of higher learning.
Publications: Must have published at least two (2) articles in a peer-reviewed journal.
Additional Assets: While the focus is Intellectual Disability, certificates in Kenyan Sign Language or Audiology, or proficiency in Braille, are considered added advantages for related specializations within the department.
Terms of Service
A competitive remuneration package including basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover will be provided.
Note: While this post is for a Lecturer, Tutorial Fellows at the university are typically employed on one-year renewable contracts up to a maximum of three years.
