Mount Kenya University (MKU) is seeking a Full-Time Lecturer in Dermatology to join the Medical School. The successful candidate will report to the Dean of the Medical School and will be responsible for providing high-quality educational experiences to undergraduate and graduate students. This role involves curriculum delivery, research supervision, and active participation in the school's administrative and research objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery: Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials and classroom activities, ensuring adherence to curriculum requirements.
Assessment and Examination: Manage the setting, administration, moderation, and marking of Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and final examinations.
Student Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Academic Record Management: Ensure that accurate student records, including registers, reports, assessments, and achievements, are updated in the Academic Management System.
Research and Publication: Identify funding sources through grant writing, engage in publishing research papers, and participate in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Curriculum Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery, ensuring learning materials meet defined objectives.
Collaboration: Partner with other researchers internally, nationally, and internationally to establish research linkages and contribute to the school's research objectives.
Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks as required, including leadership of academic programs and membership in various school committees.
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Credentials: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) and a Masters of Medicine (MMed) in Dermatology or a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at the university level.
Industry Experience: Relevant work experience in the medical/healthcare industry.
Professional Registration: Must be registered and licensed to practice by the relevant professional body (Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board).
Additional Qualifications: An earned PhD degree in a relevant area from a recognized/accredited university OR being registered/registrable for a PhD is an added advantage.
