Safaricom is looking for a Lead - Enterprise Cloud, IOT & Security. This senior leadership role involves driving the overall strategy, design, and evolution of enterprise and edge data centres to ensure high availability, resilience, and operational excellence. You will oversee the entire cloud strategy, enterprise application lifecycle, and a scalable digital marketplace, while providing executive leadership for enterprise security strategy, architecture, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Data Centres
- Lead the strategy and evolution of enterprise and edge data centres.
- Oversee capacity planning, infrastructure scalability, and lifecycle management.
- Implement energy-efficient and sustainable data centre architectures.
- Drive automation, observability, and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and governance requirements.
- Manage vendor and colocation partner performance against SLAs.
- Champion infrastructure modernization (hybrid cloud, virtualization, software-defined infrastructure).
- Own disaster recovery and business continuity readiness plans.
Applications
- Provide strategic direction for enterprise applications alignment with business needs.
- Oversee application lifecycle management, modernization, and migration to cloud-native architectures.
- Drive adoption of microservices, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and automation.
- Govern application security, access controls, and secure coding standards.
- Lead technical debt reduction through rationalization and consolidation.
Marketplace
- Lead development of a scalable cloud marketplace for digital services, APIs, and SaaS.
- Define product portfolio, pricing models, and go-to-market strategies.
- Build a robust API ecosystem for developer and enterprise innovation.
- Drive marketplace monetization through subscription and usage-based models.
Cloud Strategy
- Execute a multi-year strategy covering hybrid, private, and public cloud models.
- Define cloud governance frameworks (cost, performance, security, architecture).
- Optimize cloud spend through FinOps practices and automation.
- Oversee cloud platform engineering and drive adoption of containerization and AI/ML platforms.
Security
- Provide leadership for enterprise security strategy and operations.
- Oversee cyber defense, SOC operations, threat intelligence, and response readiness.
- Implement zero-trust frameworks and secure network segmentation.
- Manage third-party risk and supply chain security.
Partnerships
- Build and manage strategic partnerships with hyperscalers and cybersecurity vendors.
- Establish co-innovation models and joint GTM strategies.
- Collaborate with regulators to shape national digital and cloud policy.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Coach and mentor the leadership team to drive strategic excellence.
- Drive diversity, inclusion, and succession readiness for pivotal roles.
- Institutionalize a functional Academy for playbooks and innovation models.
- Embed OKRs and a performance-driven culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or Cybersecurity.
- Master’s degree in ICT Management, Cloud Computing, or an MBA with a technology focus is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 12–15 years’ progressive leadership experience in ICT operations, cloud engineering, IoT, and cybersecurity.
- Proven experience managing hybrid and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Extensive experience with large-scale IoT platforms and connectivity technologies (NB-IoT, 5G).
- Advanced cybersecurity expertise (Zero Trust, IAM, SOC, vulnerability management).
- Strong commercial and financial acumen (FinOps, technology investment analysis).
- Relevant certifications such as AWS/Azure Architect, CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, ITIL, or PMP.
