This is the entry and training grade for the Laboratory Technologist cadre at the Water Resources Authority (WRA). An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer to support the laboratory technology function. The role is responsible for undertaking surface and ground water quality and pollution assessment and monitoring through field and bench laboratory analyses, providing advice on water suitability for various uses and implementing measures to protect water resources from pollution.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Receiving and registering water and wastewater samples.
Distributing water and wastewater samples to appropriate laboratory units.
Preparing analytical reagents, chemicals, and solutions.
Undertaking field and laboratory bench water and wastewater analyses.
Recording field water and wastewater analytical data and information.
Sampling, labelling, and submitting water and wastewater for bench laboratory analysis.
Tracking and documenting water and wastewater analyses.
Sorting and maintaining a register of water and wastewater for disposal.
Maintaining water quality and pollution equipment and tools.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Biological, Microbiological Applied Sciences, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Terms of Service and Remuneration
Successful candidates will serve for a probationary period of six (6) months, thereafter converting to Permanent and Pensionable Terms of Service. Remuneration will be subject to the existing terms approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
