The Laboratory Manager will provide overall leadership, coordination, and quality oversight of all study laboratory activities within the PEARLS MATRIX Study. The role ensures high-quality laboratory operations, compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), proper sample management, and effective integration of laboratory services within the clinical study workflow.
Responsibilities
Provide overall management and coordination of all study laboratory activities.
Ensure implementation and compliance with the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS).
Supervise sample collection, processing, storage, and biobanking activities.
Oversee implementation and adherence to laboratory SOPs and study protocols.
Ensure quality assurance systems are implemented, including IQC and EQA programmes.
Coordinate sample shipment processes and ensure regulatory approvals are obtained and documented.
Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and functionality of laboratory equipment.
Supervise laboratory staff, including performance management, training, and mentorship.
Ensure accurate laboratory data management, documentation, and reporting practices.
Liaise with clinical teams to ensure effective laboratory clinic integration and workflow efficiency.
Ensure compliance with biosafety, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical guidance and operational support to the study team and investigators.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a related field.
Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
Must possess a valid practicing license.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
At least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory or management role in a laboratory.
Experience in clinical trials or research laboratory systems is required.
Strong experience in laboratory quality systems (QMS, IQC, EQA) and SOP management.
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is an added advantage.
Training in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) is required or highly desirable.
Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
Good computer literacy including proficiency in data systems, reporting, and documentation tools.
