Job Description
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for the general cleanliness of the kitchen, including floors, walls, counters, equipment, storage areas, crockery, and cutlery. This role involves ensuring a continuous supply of clean utensils and maintaining high hygiene standards throughout the facility's operations.
Key Responsibilities
Cleanliness Maintenance: Ensure the kitchen remains clean during operation hours and perform thorough cleaning of the kitchen, equipment, and utensils at the end of each shift.
Inventory Management: Maintain a steady supply of clean crockery and cutlery for the kitchen and service staff.
Chemical Safety: Use cleaning detergents correctly for various surfaces and monitor usage to minimize wastage while maintaining high hygiene standards.
Equipment Handling: Exercise care when cleaning equipment and handling utensils to prevent damage or breakages.
Scheduled Deep Cleaning: Plan and execute deep cleaning of storage areas, drainages (including manholes), and equipment that requires routine dismantling.
Area Organization: Keep the back area, garbage disposal zone, and receiving area clean and orderly.
Kitchen Support: Assist with food preparation tasks as assigned and cooperate with the head cook on shift allocations, especially during 24-hour peak periods.
General Support: Perform other duties as directed by management.
Academic & Professional Qualifications
KCSE Certificate.
Catering certificate from a recognized institution OR at least two years of experience in a similar role.
Training in basic kitchen hygiene and safety is considered an added advantage.
Competencies and Skills
Strong commitment to cleanliness and hygiene standards.
Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift items, and perform repetitive tasks.
Attention to detail when handling fragile equipment and utensils.
Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow strict instructions.
Teamwork skills suitable for a fast-paced environment.
