Makini Schools is a leader in the Kenyan system of education, drawing on global best practices across five campuses in Nairobi and Kisumu. We are recruiting to fill the position of a Kiswahili & History/Geography Teacher at our High School. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the ethos of the school while delivering high-quality instruction that meets the varying learning and social needs of our students.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and develop the ethos of the school in accordance with directions given by the Directors and the Principal.
Teach classes and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting meet students' varying learning and social needs.
Contribute to constructive team-building among teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and Directors.
Ensure that agreed conditions of employment for school teachers are met.
Implement agreed school policies and guidelines in consultation with the Principal.
Support initiatives decided by the Principal and other staff members.
Plan appropriately to meet the needs of all students through differentiation of tasks.
Set clear targets based on prior attainment for students’ learning.
Provide a stimulating classroom environment where resources are accessible to all students.
Keep appropriate and efficient records of work, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning.
Report to parents on the development, progress, and attainment of students.
Maintain good order and discipline amongst students in accordance with the school’s behavior policy.
Participate in meetings related to school management, curriculum, administration, and organization.
Lead, organize, and direct support staff within the classroom.
Participate in the performance management system for effective service delivery.
Attend staff meetings, seminars, and co-curricular events associated with the school curriculum.
Carry out supervisory duties as required and assist with out-of-school activities.
Ensure prompt and regular attendance of students and report absences to the Principal or Deputy Principal.
Promote a professional image and uphold the school’s reputation through appropriate professional dress and conduct.
Undertake duties reasonably regarded as within the nature of the post and any other duties as directed by senior management.
Requirements
Bachelor of Education degree (Education) - Kiswahili & History/Geography option or its equivalent from a recognized University/ Institution.
Be a registered member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a recognized school (High school or Junior school).
