Tana River Sugar Company (TRSC) is a Kenyan agribusiness developing a large-scale, integrated sugar and renewable-energy complex at Bura, in Tana River County.
Role Summary
The Jaggery Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the jaggery processing plant, ensuring efficient production, consistent product quality, optimal utilization of manpower and equipment, compliance with food safety standards, and adherence to occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements. The incumbent will supervise production personnel, coordinate daily manufacturing activities, monitor production performance, and support continuous process improvement to achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Supervise production personnel and coordinate daily manufacturing activities within the jaggery processing plant.
Oversee sugarcane juice extraction, clarification, open-pan boiling, concentration techniques, and furnace operations.
Monitor production performance to ensure daily manufacturing targets and quality standards are met.
Manage bagasse fuel utilization and coordinate preventive maintenance for plant equipment.
Ensure compliance with food safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and occupational health and safety requirements.
Maintain complete production documentation, inventory control logs, and quality reports.
Support continuous process improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency.
Qualification, Skills and Competencies
Education: Diploma or Certificate in Food Science and Technology, Sugar Technology, Food Processing, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' practical experience in jaggery production, sugar processing, food manufacturing, or agro-processing, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory role. Experience with open-pan boiling systems is highly desirable.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of jaggery manufacturing, sugarcane juice extraction, furnace operations, bagasse fuel management, equipment maintenance, GMP, workplace safety, and MS Office proficiency.
Additional Requirements: Willingness to reside and work at TRSC Farm in Bura, Tana River County, with flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and extended hours during peak production.
