The IT Manager will provide strategic leadership and drive digital transformation initiatives across the East African market. This role involves developing an IT roadmap that aligns with and supports business growth, overseeing digital transformation projects such as IoT solution integration and mobile payment technologies for retail operations, and managing the annual IT budget (CAPEX and OPEX) to ensure a high return on investment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the high availability of critical infrastructure, including servers and cloud services, and optimizing ERP systems within a manufacturing or distribution environment. Additionally, the role involves managing retail automation platforms, implementing robust cybersecurity frameworks, ensuring compliance with the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019), and maintaining strong relationships with technology vendors and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Digital Transformation
- Develop and implement an IT roadmap to support business expansion in the East African market.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives, including IoT solutions and mobile payment technology integrations.
- Manage annual IT budgets (CAPEX/OPEX) and ensure technology investments deliver optimal value.
Infrastructure & Operations Management
- Administer and optimize ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Navision in manufacturing or distribution contexts.
- Ensure the availability of critical infrastructure including cloud environments (Azure/AWS) and connectivity for remote sites.
- Oversee retail automation systems, forecourt controllers, and Point of Sale (POS) platforms.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Establish and maintain cybersecurity frameworks to protect operational systems and data.
- Ensure strict adherence to the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019) and industry standards.
- Develop and test Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans (BCP/DRP).
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with third-party tech providers, telecom partners, and consultants.
- Collaborate with regulatory and industry bodies on compliance and reporting.
Requirements
Education & Professional Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or MBA is highly advantageous.
- Professional certifications: CISM/CISSP (Cybersecurity), PMP/PRINCE2 (Project Management), and ITIL (Service Management).
Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of overall IT experience.
- At least 4 years in a senior management role.
- Experience in energy, manufacturing, logistics, or FMCG sectors is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Forecourt Management Systems is an added advantage.
Technical Competencies
- ERP Expertise: Proven management of platforms like SAP, Oracle, or Navision.
- Network Engineering: Proficiency in SD-WAN, VPNs, and industrial networking.
- Data Analytics: Skilled in PowerBI or Tableau for business reporting.
- Cloud Architecture: Experience with hybrid cloud management and migration.
Soft Skills
- Crisis Management: Ability to remain decisive during critical system outages.
- Communication: Capacity to explain technical concepts to non-technical executive leadership.
- Integrity: High ethical standards and a governance-oriented mindset.
