The IT Associate at TechnoServe Kenya will be responsible for providing responsive technical support, managing IT infrastructure, and driving digital innovation within the organization's Kenya and Tanzania offices. The role involves a combination of hands-on user support, systems administration, and participation in technology-driven initiatives such as the AI Taskforce to improve organizational efficiency and programmatic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
User Support (Kenya & Tanzania)
Provide responsive in-person and remote IT support to staff, addressing technical issues using tools like Atera, phone, or virtual sessions.
Oversee maintenance and servicing of printers and related equipment, ensuring availability of supplies like toner.
Support the setup and use of boardroom technology (Logitech devices, TV screens) for virtual and hybrid meetings.
Configure and deploy new laptops following the Field Office Computer Build Checklist.
Conduct orientation and training for new users on IT policies, procedures, and system usage.
Infrastructure and Systems Administration
Coordinate installation and configuration of hardware and software for new and existing offices.
Ensure all PCs and laptops are properly configured with current antivirus and security updates.
Maintain a secure, reliable LAN/WAN environment, ensuring minimal downtime and proper configuration of wired and wireless networks.
Troubleshoot IT issues across all offices and coordinate with regional and global IT teams for escalations.
IT Policy, Security, and Compliance
Support the implementation of country-specific IT policies and procedures in line with TechnoServe standards.
Manage access control systems, including user onboarding and record maintenance.
Maintain up-to-date inventories of all IT and communication assets.
Contribute to digital and systems audits as directed.
Asset and Equipment Management
Administer the Asset Tiger system, including user training and lifecycle management of assets.
Ensure proper issuance, storage, and disposal of IT assets.
Advise on IT procurement by providing technical specifications and conducting quality inspections upon delivery.
Digital Tools, Innovation, and Capacity Building
Administer and manage Trello boards and train teams on effective platform usage.
Serve as a member of the AI Taskforce, championing digital innovation and AI adoption.
Conduct refresher training for staff on common office applications and new technologies.
Collaborate with programs to explore and implement innovative digital solutions.
Vehicle Management
Monitor vehicle tracking systems for compliance with authorized usage and speed limits.
Liaise with service providers to resolve any issues related to vehicle tracker devices.
Success Milestones
First 30 Days: Fully onboarded with TechnoServe’s IT systems and tools; builds relationships with the IT team; supports basic user requests and equipment setup.
By 90 Days: Handles routine IT support and troubleshooting independently; contributes to maintenance projects and identifies process improvements.
By 180 Days: Leads small IT improvement projects; resolves complex technical issues efficiently; actively participates in digital innovation efforts.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience providing IT support in a multi-office environment, preferably within an NGO.
Proven experience in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues in Windows-based environments.
Demonstrated ability to install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure (routers, switches, wireless access points).
Familiarity with server setup, data backup, and security protocols/cybersecurity principles.
Experience with cloud collaboration tools (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Trello) and remote support systems like Atera.
Practical experience managing IT assets using tools like Asset Tiger.
Technical certifications such as MCP, CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building staff capacity.
