Absa Bank Limited is seeking a qualified Investment Manager and Analyst to join their Asset Management (AAML) division. This role is central to the firm's investment strategy, involving the generation of high-quality research, portfolio development, and the delivery of superior investment returns. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the AAML Investment Committee, ensuring all decisions are data-driven and aligned with both client objectives and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Management
Serve as a core member of the AAML Investment Committee, contributing content and strategy under the guidance of the Chief Investment Officer.
Develop and manage investment portfolios with the objective of exceeding pre-set benchmarks.
Implement Investment Committee decisions in a timely and coordinated manner.
Monitor and rebalance portfolios to ensure alignment with Investment Policy Statements (IPS), regulatory requirements, and internal risk frameworks.
Report on investment performance following Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS).
Maintain the highest ethical standards as per the CFA Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
Research and Analysis
Build and maintain sophisticated financial models for valuations of both listed and unlisted companies.
Produce comprehensive investment recommendation reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Perform macro-economic forecasting for key variables including interest rates, GDP growth, and inflation.
Lead regular meetings with the investment team to review performance and guide future strategy.
Manage research databases and provide real-time market intelligence.
Business Development and Relationship Management
Manage and grow relationships with existing clients to ensure business retention.
Support the Business Development team during presentations to prospective institutional and individual clients.
Leverage existing Absa Group relationships to expand the company's client base.
Monitor regional and international market trends to assist in the development and launch of new investment products.
Prepare and present strategy papers and performance reports to Client Investment Committees, Trustees, and the Board of Directors.
Actively manage professional relationships with brokers, market analysts, and issuers.
Risk, Compliance and Administration
Ensure all investment documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date.
Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure timely payment of management fees.
Guarantee that all investment activities comply with the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and local regulatory bodies (CMA/RBA).
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Commerce, or Actuarial Science.
Full compliance with CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment) and ICIFA (Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts) certification requirements.
Professional certifications such as CFA, CIFA, CPA, CISI, or CAIA are highly desirable and will be considered an added advantage.
Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the financial sector.
At least five (5) years of specific experience within an investment house or a similar fund management environment.
