The African Development Bank (AfDB) is inviting applications for the Engineering track of its 2026 Internship Program (Session 2). The AfDB’s mission reflects the aspirations of the entire African continent, aiming to be at the center of Africa’s transformation and to improve the quality of Africa’s growth, promote inclusive growth, and spur the transition to green growth. This internship provides students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience within the Bank's engineering and technical operations.
Objectives
Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.
Note: Applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank.
Fields of Study
While this specific opening is for the Engineering job family, the Bank generally selects interns from fields including Agriculture, Human Capital, Engineering, Investment, Operations Management, Sustainability, Procurement, Risk Management, Finance, Capacity Development, Governance, Natural Resource and Knowledge Management, Economics, Statistics and Data Management, Human Resources Management, Information Management Technology, Real Estate Management and Services, Translation and Interpretation, Communication, Legal, and Corporate Governance.
Timeline and Duration
Commencement: Session 2 starts in July 2026.
Duration: Internships are granted for a period of no less than three (3) months and no more than six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
Terms and Conditions
Work Mode: Internships may be remote or on-site depending on the needs of the hiring unit. Remote interns must have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection, and a conducive working environment.
Logistics: On-site interns are responsible for their air travel and upkeep. The Bank will assist in obtaining entry and residence visas.
Benefits: Eligible interns will benefit from medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank and a monthly stipend.
