About the Role
The African Development Bank (AfDB) is inviting applications for Session 2 of its 2026 Internship Program. This role is specifically geared towards students specializing in Economics, Statistics, and Data Management. The AfDB's mission is rooted in the transformation of Africa, aiming to improve the quality of growth, promote inclusion, and spur the transition to green growth. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain professional experience within a premier international development institution.
Objectives
Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.
Note: Applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the Bank.
Timeline
Session 2 of the 2026 Internship Program is scheduled to commence in July 2026.
Terms and Conditions
Duration: Between three (3) and six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
Modality: Internships may be remote or on-site depending on the hiring unit's needs. Remote interns must have a personal computer and reliable internet.
Travel: On-site interns are responsible for their air travel and upkeep. The Bank may assist with visa processes.
Benefits: Eligible interns receive medical insurance coverage and a monthly stipend.
Duties and Responsibilities
While specific tasks vary by department, interns in the Economics, Statistics, and Data Management track are generally expected to:
Support data collection, cleaning, and analysis for regional development projects.
Assist in the preparation of economic reports and statistical briefs.
Contribute to knowledge management and research initiatives.
Use standard software packages and internal systems (like SAP) to manage information.
Eligibility Criteria
Age: Must be between the age of majority in their country and 30 years old at the start of the program.
Education: Currently enrolled in a Master's level degree program in a recognized institution, or have graduated with a Master's degree within one (1) year of the application.
Nationality: Must be a national of a member country of the African Development Bank.
Languages: Fluent in at least one of the Bank’s working languages (English or French).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is an added advantage.
