Job Description
Role Overview
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN agency for human settlements, mandated by the General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. The Urban Economy Branch, specifically the Capacity Development Unit (CDS), is offering an internship that provides a vibrant learning environment and professional growth opportunities. The intern will contribute to capacity-development projects, technical research, and the enhancement of digital learning platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Project and Programme Management: Contribute to the planning, design, development, and management of capacity-development projects focused on sustainable urban development.
Technical Research: Conduct research and draft technical background papers and frameworks.
Digital Learning: Enhance the impact of capacity development products through digital learning platforms (UN-Habitat Learn) and various communication tools.
Partnership Coordination: Support partnership management and the coordination of the unit’s ongoing projects.
Administrative Support: Assist in general project coordination and administrative tasks within the Capacity Development Unit.
Requirements and Qualifications
Educational Eligibility: To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following at the time of application:
Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level).
Have graduated with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree.
Fields of Study: Preferred areas include Urban Planning, Architecture, Education, Social Sciences, Geography, Public Administration, Business Administration, or International Development.
Technical Skills: Must be computer literate in standard software applications, specifically the Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency in research methodologies, data collection, and project management tools is highly desirable.
Professional Experience: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
Personal Attributes: Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and respect differing opinions.
